Huawei’s latest operating system, HarmonyOS 2.0, is on its way to smartphones and smartwatches. HarmonyOS aims to provide a seamless user experience by competing with industry strong-holds Android and iOS. Huawei’s native operating system aims to unify all its devices (phones, smartwatches, and smart home devices) through one platform.
Read on as we discuss compatible devices and how you too can experience the latest HarmonyOS 2.0.
Is Your Device Compatible?
The first step to getting HarmonyOS 2.0 is determining if your Huawei device is supported.
Currently, Huawei smartphones with up to 4GB RAM are supported and can get the upgrade. In addition, Huawei is only supporting the Chinese smartphone version. If you have a global version Huawei phone, you will have to wait a while for the latest update.
Huawei does not support smartphone devices from other manufacturers at the moment, but this may change in the future. Huawei’s flagship Mate and P series lineup will automatically receive the HarmonyOS 2.0 update.
How to Download HarmonyOS 2.0
If your Huawei device is compatible, you can get the HarmonyOS 2.0 update. If you can’t read or understand Chinese, we recommend using a translator app with a camera feature (Google Translate) because the My Huawei app is Chinese.
To download HarmonyOS 2.0, do the following:
- Download the My Huawei app from Huawei App Gallery.
- Click on HarmonyOS Early Access Beta; this should be the leftmost box.
- Use the translator app to translate the Chinese text and read through the user agreements and on-screen instructions.
- Complete the on-screen steps and HarmonyOS 2.0 will then be installed on your Huawei phone.
HarmonyOS Is the Future for Huawei
Huawei is focused on making HarmonyOS a genuine alternative to Android, but only time will tell how successful it will be. HarmonyOS will allow users to use both HarmonyOS and Android apps. The HarmonyOS app store has over 134,000 apps, with four million developers ready to distribute apps.
The success of HarmonyOS depends on whether or not other Chinese manufacturers agree to partner with Huawei. If HarmonyOS is successful within China, we could very well see an epic tech-tussle between Huawei, Android, and Google.
